Directions

The Sanctuary For Independent Media is at 3361 6th Avenue in North Troy (just below 101st Street). We’re located in a century-old wood frame former church framed by two tall pine trees, just a block from the Hudson River. There is plenty of free on-street parking available within a few steps of our building.

There’s one charming historical note to keep in mind as you navigate! Please note that street names change without warning at 101st Street, at the mystical location of Freedom Square! The street grids of Troy and Lansingburgh were never unified when the communities were joined a hundred years ago, so south of 101st Street is 6th Ave and north of 101st Street is 5th Ave, but they’re the same street. We’re lucky to have excellent bus service to the Sanctuary courtesy of the CDTA.

From Albany and points west:

  1. Take the Thruway (I-90) to Albany. 
  2. Just before crossing the Hudson River (after the downtown Albany exits), take I-787 north toward Troy. You’ll be following the Hudson River. 
  3. Take exit 8 off of I-787, bear right at the intersection at the bottom of the exit ramp, right again at the next light, following signs to downtown Troy. 
  4. After crossing the Hudson River, you’re in Troy. Turn LEFT at the 2nd traffic light (6th Avenue). You’re now driving away from downtown. 
  5. Go two miles up 6th Avenue. When you see a Stewart’s convenience store on your left, it’s your warning that we’re in the next block. The Sanctuary will be on your LEFT (Hudson River side) at 3361 6th Avenue.

NOTE: If you go up 6th Avenue and cross 101st Street, you just missed us and 6th Avenue has changed to 5th Avenue without warning. If you find yourself on 5th Avenue, turn around and retrace your route.

From Lenox and southwestern Massachusetts:

  1. Take the Mass Pike (I-90) to Albany. 
  2. Just after crossing the Hudson River (before the downtown Albany exits), take I-787 north toward Troy. You’ll be following the Hudson River. 
  3. Take exit 8 off of I-787, bear right at the intersection at the bottom of the exit ramp, right again at the next light, following signs to downtown Troy.

From Williamstown and northwestern Massachusetts:

  1. Take route 43 toward Troy. 
  2. When route 43 joins route 66, continue on route 66. 
  3. Follow route 66 until it becomes Pauling Avenue in Troy. 
  4. Bear left down the hill onto Congress Street after crossing the bridge over the Wynantskill. 
  5. Turn right onto 6th Avenue. Go two miles up 6th Avenue. When you see a Stewart’s convenience store on your left, it’s your warning that we’re in the next block. The Sanctuary will be on your LEFT (Hudson River side) at 3361 6th Avenue.

NOTE: If you go up 6th Avenue and cross 101st Street, you just missed us and 6th Avenue has changed to 5th Avenue without warning. If you find yourself on 5th Avenue, turn around and retrace your route.

From Vermont:

  1. Take Vermont 9 (which turns into NY 7) to Troy. 
  2. Just before crossing the Hudson River, bear left to go under the Collar City Bridge. 
  3. Under the bridge, turn right on 6th Avenue. 
  4. Go two miles up 6th Avenue. When you see a Stewart’s convenience store on your left, it’s your warning that we’re in the next block. The Sanctuary will be on your LEFT (Hudson River side) at 3361 6th Avenue.

NOTE: If you go up 6th Avenue and cross 101st Street, you just missed us and 6th Avenue has changed to 5th Avenue without warning. If you find yourself on 5th Avenue, turn around and retrace your route.

From Saratoga Springs and points north:

  1. Take I-87 south toward Albany. 
  2. Take the route 7 exit toward Troy. 
  3. Just after crossing the Hudson River, bear right at the exit for downtown Troy and bear right immediately as though to go back under the bridge you just exited. 
  4. Continue straight off the ramp until the street dead ends at the Hudson River. Turn right (onto River Street). 
  5. Follow River Street two miles to 101st Street (there is a Kennedy Pizza & Chicken store on the corner). 
  6. Turn right on 101st Street, drive one block, and turn right (the street sign on the left says “5th Avenue” but when you turn right you are actually on 6th Avenue. 
  7. The Sanctuary is four doors down on your RIGHT (Hudson River side) at 3361 6th Avenue.

From downtown Troy:

  1. Go two miles up 6th Avenue toward Lansingburgh. When you see a Stewart’s convenience store on your left, it’s your warning that we’re in the next block. The Sanctuary will be on your LEFT (Hudson River side) at 3361 6th Avenue.

From Lansingburgh:

  1. Take 5th Avenue south toward downtown Troy. 
  2. At 101st Street, 5th Avenue turns into 6th Avenue. 
  3. The Sanctuary is four doors down on your right.
