Seeds of Power: Films by Indigenous Women

Join us for a screening of two short documentary films made by Indigenous filmmakers, Katsitsionni Fox and Michelle Schenandoah. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion about the sources of power that have inspired and strengthened their communities and inspired them to make their films.
This program is made possible through a partnership with MDOCS Co-Creation Initiative at Skidmore College.
Kanenon:we – Original Seeds features three Haudenosaunee women who are stepping back into their sacred responsibility as seed keepers. They honor the work of our ancestors by regenerating, rematriating and protecting sacred seeds offering a powerful view of what is possible in Indigenous communities working towards food sovereignty.

Rematriation has centered the voice of 9 Indigneous women in a short video series that shares stories of resilience, leadership, spirituality and healing. Led by an all women team, directors and producers, Katsitsionni Fox (Mohawk) and Michelle Schenandoah (Oneida), cinematographer, Marie Cecile Dietlin, and multiple editors including Rematriation’s New Media Creator, Afton P. Lewis.
We will be showing the short film on Joanne Shenandoah (Oneida), a Grammy winner and humanitarian who had over 40 music awards and 24 recordings. She captured hearts around the world and is an ambassador for peace, and human and Earth rights.
