And what about the media? I wanted to put a face on these media nodes\, the places where news is ‘made’ if you will.” This world-premiere exhibition of the eight-year project Media Nodes was originally published in the Columbia Journalism Review. DESCRIPTION:In 2003\, on the eve of the Iraq war\, director Iara Lee embarked on a journey to better understand a world increasingly embroiled in conflict and\, as she saw it\, heading for self-destruction. After several years\, traveling over five continents\, Iara encountered growing numbers of people who committed their lives to promoting change. This is their story.  \n\n\n\nFrom Iran\, where graffiti and rap became tools in fighting government repression\, to Burma\, where monks acting in the tradition of Gandhi take on a dictatorship\, moving on to Brazil\, where musicians reach out to slum kids and transform guns into guitars\, and ending in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon\, where photography\, music\, and film have given a voice to those rarely heard\, filmmaker Iara Lee’s Cultures of Resistance (2010) explores how art and creativity can be ammunition in the battle for peace and justice.

DESCRIPTION:A return visit by the internationally renowned 10-piece jazz ensemble that combines the agility and freedom of a jazz combo\, the raw power and subtle coloring of a jazz orchestra\, and the deep grooves of Afro-Latin music\, premiering a new suite commissioned by Chamber Music America. The film shows a world living with the disease for nearly 30 years\, while ignorance and prejudice about it endure. By focusing specifically on the need for honest comprehensive sex education\, this engaging documentary by Jean Carlomusto\, Sex in an Epidemic (2010) provides a sociocultural perspective on the history of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and its ongoing impact on the most effected populations including the gay\, African-American and Latino communities. Incorporating interviews and media footage from the earliest days of the AIDS panic through the present\, Sex in an Epidemic reminds us that\, though the world has been living with the realities of HIV/AIDS for nearly 30 years\, ignorance and prejudice about the disease must still be combated.
