DESCRIPTION:Installed in the Underground Gallery\, Facing Change: Documenting America is an exhibition features work by some of the nation’s most accomplished photographers\, inspired by the Farm Security Administration photography project of the Great Depression. Dedicated to exploring new perspectives on our country’s most urgent problems\, the Facing Change collective aims to influence public discourse by humanizing a wide spectrum of neglected and misunderstood issues.   \n\n\n\nJoin visiting photojournalists for a walk-through of the exhibition from 5:30 to 6:30 PM on March 3\, 2012. Walk-through followed by a community potluck.  \n\n\n\nThe exhibition is on view 3/3/12-6/16/12.

DESCRIPTION:Two-time Polk Award-winning New York Daily News columnist and Democracy Now! co-host Juan Gonzalez has emerged as one of the country’s best-known and most-respected Latino journalists during a turbulent career spanning more than 35 years.  \n\n\n\nEven before he entered journalism\, Gonzalez distinguished himself as a leader of the Young Lords\, a militant civil rights organization of the late 1960s\, and of the National Congress for Puerto Rican Rights in the 1970s. The author of four books\, his most recent is News for All the People: The Epic Story of Race and the American Media. His recent reporting on the fatal shooting of a retired Marine in White Plains cracked a tightly kept secret\, revealing for the first time that the man who pulled the trigger is one of six cops accused in a federal police brutality case stemming from an incident in 2008.

SUMMARY:Be The Media! NY Youth Shout Out: “Youth Resolutions” Media Production Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Youth media makers join forces to create short videos. Tweens through young adults brainstorm ideas around the theme “Re:solution/Re:volution/Re:Mix\,” then shoot and edit in a whirlwind of production throughout the afternoon. The workshop is facilitated by media artists from North Troy’s Youth Media Sanctuary and Albany’s Youth FX. The workshop is followed in the evening during the NY Shout Out! 3rd Annual Youth Media Festival\, where the youth media makers will present their work on panels\, documented with a live 4 cam HD studio shoot! Presented with Hudson Mohawk Independent Media Center and by the New York State Council on the Arts.
