Let’s work through your design dilemmas and learn to make interesting and attractive event materials using a mixture of media and whatever tools you have. Bring a current project and your laptop and get ready to make good graphics. We will learn software tricks and tips\, but this is not a Photoshop class. After all\, you can make stuff without a computer! In addition to such programs as Photoshop\, Illustrator\, Gimp and Word\, we will also use scanners\, photocopying\, collage and hand illustration. In this workshop we will: view examples of the good and the bad; learn basic graphic design principles; create a clear visual message; work with different types of media; make multiple versions of a concept; review and critique each others’ work; develop and finalize a design for your project.

SUMMARY:"Let the Fire Burn" with Filmmaker Jason Osder
DESCRIPTION:Presented by filmmaker Jason Osder\, Let the Fire Burn is the chilling saga of Philadelphia’s 1985 decision to drop a bomb on black liberation group MOVE\, told using only archival news coverage and interviews. Eleven were killed and 61 buildings burned in one of the most tumultuous clashes between government and citizens. In the astonishingly gripping Let the Fire Burn (2013)\, director Osder has crafted that rarest of cinematic objects: a found-footage film that unfurls with the tension of a great thriller. On May 13\, 1985\, a longtime feud between the City of Philadelphia and controversial radical urban group MOVE came to a deadly climax. By order of local authorities\, police dropped military-grade explosives onto a MOVE-occupied row-house. TV cameras captured the conflagration that quickly escalated. It was only later discovered that authorities decided to “…let the fire burn.” The screening will be proceeded by a community potluck.
