SUMMARY:HMM Community Radio Day
DESCRIPTION:Community Radio Days take place on the first Monday of every month\, bringing interested and producing correspondents together to discuss grassroots news\, story ideas\, share experiences\, and create community. Hudson Mohawk Magazine is for everyone. Drop by to see what it’s all about.  \n\n\n\nHudson Mohawk Magazine (HMM) is a volunteer-produced\, local news hour that provides sanctuary for the discussion of topics affecting our communities. Our program builds community in Troy and the surrounding Capital Region through broad grassroots participation. \n\n\n\n3:00pm: Doors open. Producers come in and work on projects in our computer lab. We offer light beverages and snacks.4:30pm: Established producers and newcomers gather around the conference table to discuss HMM and how we do what we do. Discussions often have a theme such as interview tactics\, outreach\, editing\, structuring a story\, etc. 6:00pm: See a live recording of HMM. Hear the variety of stories on our program in real time\, and see how hosts and engineers in action. 7:07pm: Join our weekly programming meeting where producers come together to program the week ahead. Meet our team\, and share your ideas for for stories.  \n\n\n\nDo you like to tell stories? Are you interested in reporting on issues you care about? Do you want to engage with your community? SUMMARY:PHS Community Acupuncture
DESCRIPTION:PHS is offering the first People’s Health Community Acupuncture as part of our Healing Days.  Community acupuncture is a grassroots model to increase access to acupuncture. It is done in a group setting (about 5 people at a time) in comfortable recliners and uses points mainly in your hands and feet.   \n\n\n\nThis is our first session\, the last appointment of the day is at 3:10p. Walk-ins are welcome\, if there is space. Please wear comfy clothes and drink plenty of water!  Acupuncture will be performed by Xavier\, a NYS certified physician-acupuncturist. He was trained in a Japanese style formulated by Kiko Matsumoto through the Acumed program. \n\n\n\n\nSign up here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is acupuncture?\n\n\n\nJohn Hopkins Medicine writes\, acupuncture is the practice of penetrating the skin with thin\, solid\, metallic needles which are then activated through gentle and specific movements of the practitioner’s hands or with electrical stimulation.  \n\n\n\nAcupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believe the human body has more than 2\,000 acupuncture points connected by pathways or meridians. These pathways create an energy flow (Qi\, pronounced “chee”) through the body that is responsible for overall health. Disruption of the energy flow can cause disease. By applying acupuncture to certain points\, it is thought to improve the flow of Qi\, thereby improving health. Read more \n\n\n\nMore about community acupuncture\n\n\n\nCommunity acupuncture is a grassroots model designed to increase access to acupuncture. It is done in a group setting\, mainly using points mainly in your hands\, feet\, and ears.  In the US\, specifically at the Lincoln Hospital Detox Program in the Bronx\, the practice was brought over in the 70’s from China by Black Panther and Young Lord activists.  It has been refined and spread through the work of the Peoples Organization of Community Acupuncture (POCA).

Learn to identify common opportunist species of urban trees\, discuss the different techniques and objectives of pruning\, when to remove trees\, when to plant trees\, and help the crew manage the Sanctuary’s fledgling reforestation projects! We’ll finish with a grafting demo in Collard City Growers! \n\n\n\n*This event is rain or shine! Participants are encouraged to bring their own pruning shears\, as we will have a limited number available.
