DESCRIPTION:Community Radio Days are opportunities for folks to gather around the importance of community radio. Every month a different Hudson Mohawk Magazine producer leads a discussion or exercise\, and anyone is welcome to join. Topics range from how to create grassroots radio\, pursuing a story\, creating a community\, and amplifying lesser heard voices. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer producer or if you just want to be a part of community around the importance of civic journalism\, join us!  \n\n\n\nHMM Community Radio Days take place on the first Monday of each month (unless it’s a holiday)\, and we serve some light food and beverages. If you are interested in joining the discussion but are remote\, please email HMM@mediasanctuary.org in advance.  \n\n\n\nTimeline:4:00-4:30pm: arrive\, meet our producers\, get some food\, settle in4:30-6:00pm: group discussion (this takes place in our basement in the colder months. If stairs are an accessibility barrier\, please be in touch so we can prepare our accessible level)6:00-7:00pm: sit in on a live airing of HMM7:07-8:00pm: sit in on our weekly production meeting

DESCRIPTION:Join us for StoryHarvest\, our annual food justice celebration\, connecting the community over stories of food. This year’s event kicks off our 20th Anniversary with the theme Altar to the Past\, Altar to the Future! Join us for a campus-wide celebration\, bringing together community groups and offering activities\, games\, music\, and food– all FREE! \n\n\n\nFeaturing\n\n\n\n\nArtist Meg Jala will create a participatory altar for attendees of the event to contribute to \n\n\n\nPhotographer Robert Cooper will offer mini portrait sessions\n\n\n\nVisitors will be invited to have a seat at the table\, joining others at a long table at Freedom Square where guests will be served food and invited into conversations about the past and future\n\n\n\nAn apple pressing station will be at Collard City Growers\n\n\n\nTour NATURE Lab’s new mural\, a collaboration between Jade Warrick and Water Justice Lab Youth fellows\n\n\n\nCommunity Acupuncture with Dr. Xavier Coughlin of People’s Health Sanctuary\n\n\n\nA mugwort “Reclining Chair” with artist Z. DESCRIPTION:Join the Community Apothecary for a series of winter herbal workshops at the People’s Health Sanctuary including DIY Fire Cider (Jan 26)\, Essential Winter Self-Care through Skincare & Scent (Feb 2)\, and Elder\, The Magical Medicine Chest of the People (Feb 23). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDIY Fire Cider: Fire Cider is a traditional folk remedy to ward off sickness and promote health. Made with apple cider vinegar and honey and infused with a variety of pungent herbs such as garlic\, onions\, horseradish\, ginger\, and hot peppers to name a few. This remedy has been used and shared for generations by herbalists\, and there are many possible variations to create this tart & spicy health tonic. Come learn more about the many properties of Fire Cider\, and craft a recipe your own. Plus\, you will leave with a jar to take home! \n\n\n\nLimited spots available. Registration with a $10 refundable deposit is required to hold your place. Donations recommended on a sliding scale of $0 – 30; no one will be turned away for lack of funds. \n\n\n\n\nRegister with $10 refundable deposit\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFacilitator Bio: Rebecca Hein is a community herbalist and urban farmer. Founder and owner of Underground Alchemy\, she has been making herbal remedies grown on what were vacant lots in Albany’s South End since 2011. Her work is driven by a desire to connect people and plants\, support community health and empowerment\, and position herbalism in the struggle for accessible healthcare.
