SUMMARY:"Notes Against the Threshold of Dreams" with Zevin Polzin
DESCRIPTION:Composer Zevin Polzin’s overnight concert\, Notes Against the Threshold of Dreams\, will be an exploration of the liminal zone between waking consciousness and dream. This process involves the sonification of states of consciousness into contrapuntal melodies that bend and warp over the course of sleep\, finally re-emerging as new melodies created by REM brainwaves. The audience is invited to bring blankets and pillows for falling asleep during the performance. In the morning\, participants share dreams with each other\, assisted by a dream facilitator Ione. \n\n\n\nPresented with the Deep Listening Institute.

SUMMARY:"The Other Side" Premier with Filmmaker Bill Brown
DESCRIPTION:Bill Brown is from Lubbock\, Texas. He has made several short experimental documentaries about the dusty corners of the North American landscape\, including The Other Side (2006). He will be screening these along with his new film The Other Side\, a 2000 mile journey along the U.S./Mexico border revealing a geography of aspiration and insecurity. While documenting the efforts of migrant activists to establish a network of water stations in the borderlands of the south western U.S.\, Brown considers the border as a landscape\, at once physical\, historical\, and political. \n\n\n\nPresented in association with the Central New York Programmers Group and the Experimental Television Center Presentation Funds program\, which is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts.

SUMMARY:Joe Giardullo's Red Morocco
DESCRIPTION:Formed in 2005 Red Morocco is Joe Giardullo\, tenor/soprano sax; Bob Forbes\, bass; and Harvey Sorgen\, drums. This powerful band features Harvey Sorgen\, former longtime drummer with Hot Tuna. Joe and Harvey go back over 30 years together\, including a time based in Amsterdam\, Holland in the 1970s. Joe Giardullo is a free jazz reed player whose improvisations are microtonal\, a style of playing that features other notes than the twelve octaves used in most Western music. His music has been described as an insinuating sound collage. One reviewer described it as having “a dangerous\, poisonous beauty\,” and that’s where the name comes from–red morocco is the name of a poisonous plant!
