SUMMARY:NATURE Lab Workshop with Ellie Irons: Next Epoch Seed Library
DESCRIPTION:What happens when we preserve plants based on utility or agricultural use alone? What if the plants we value are not the ones that will survive the shifting ecology caused by anthropogenic climate change? The Next Epoch Seed Library is crowd-sourced seed library for spontaneous urban plants\, otherwise known as weeds. Join environmental artist Ellie Irons in a seed-sorting workshop where you will learn seed identification\, the impact of intra-species genetic diversity\, and receive your very own Evening Primrose seeds to distribute throughout the growing ecology of Troy! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Ellie Irons:\n\n\n\nEllie Irons is an artist and educator based in Brooklyn and Troy\, New York. She works in a variety of media\, from video to workshops to re-wilding experiments\, to reveal how human and more-than-human lives intertwine with other earth systems. Her recent work focuses on plants\, people and urban ecosystems in the so-called Anthropocene. She is a cofounder of the Next Epoch Seed Library and the Environmental Performance Agency. Irons received her BA from Scripps College in Los Angeles and her MFA from Hunter College\, CUNY in New York. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Electronic Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute\, where she is researching the intersection of socially engaged art\, community science\, and urban ecology as a means for envisioning and enacting multispecies solidarity in the face of climate chaos.

SUMMARY:NATURE Lab: Yoga Sanctuary with Heartspace
DESCRIPTION:Let Nikki Rogers guide us in yoga practice dedicated to healing arts and mindfulness. Nikki has devoted the past decade of her professional life to promoting the health\, and wellbeing of the community of Albany. She began her personal journey into yoga in 2005 and in 2012 a 200-hour Hatha Yoga teacher training opened the door to her dream of sharing yoga with the Albany community as a pathway to stress relief and a healthy lifestyle. Nikki’s classes could be described as “beginner plus.” She designs her classes specifically to be done by people with little experience with the practice\, while still providing a challenge to all skill levels. Linking breath and movement for a relaxing practice\, Nikki safely guide students into poses and tailors each session to the individual needs of each of her classes. \n\n\n\nThis event will be taking place after the NATURE Lab Open Hours workshop: Next Epoch Seed Library with Ellie Irons.

DESCRIPTION:It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Join us at The Sanctuary for the eighth annual North Central Troy Justice and Peace Holiday Celebration. We’ll have free food\, portraits\, art activities\,  a TBR bike give-away\, and the lighting of the tree at Freedom Square (at the corner of 101st and 5th/6th Avenue)\, and more!! Plus\, at 3 pm we’ll have music with Derrick Horton & The Jay Street Band; Men of Faith; MC H. Bosh Jr.  \n\n\n\n[NOTE: Brenda Ann Kenneally is on a special assignment for the New York Times and will be unable to shoot portrait photos as originally planned.]  \n\n\n\nVolunteer with us! We need volunteers and  to help with our community meal (cooking\, serving and clean up)\, event set up and breakdown\, activity tables\, tech support and more!
