SUMMARY:Health Autonomy Clinic: Addressing Social Disparities and the Crisis
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Health Autonomy Clinic focused on social disparities and the crisis\, ways that POC communities/oppressed/marginalized communities are being affected\, and programs and resources caring for essential workers\, incarcerated and the detained.  \n\n\n\nThe goal of “Addressing Social Disparities and the Crisis” is to counter the narrative that “everyone is in this together” and to highlight how this crisis is unmasking already existing social disparities. The session also focuses on how the crisis is being used to augment structural violence with the use of “essential workers\,” and how the crisis is affecting communities of color\, undocumented\, economically marginalized\, and indigenous communities. We will touch upon the way institutionalized healthcare training is being affected and how that affects historically marginalized communities. Some basic questions will include how narratives around “chronic disease” can often gloss over structural violence\, and the way the rhetoric around “essential workers” hides a more true “disposable” worker narrative. In addition\, we will showcase how communities have organized themselves to address such issues and organize for broader support.
