DESCRIPTION:For our second Norlite Town Hall\, our panelists will include Jane Williams from the National Sierra Club Clean Air Team; Sean Mahar\, chief of staff for NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos; and Joe Ritchie\, longtime Cohoes resident in the Saratoga Sites apartment complex. This meeting will focus on Norlite\, Senate bill 7880B / Assembly bill 9952B\, and the Albany Clean Air Law\, Local Law B. Sponsored by Assemblymember John McDonald and State Senator Neil Breslin\, the bill was passed unanimously in the NYS Legislature. However\, it is unclear if Governor Cuomo will sign or veto the bill. This will be discussed\, along with questions from participants.The Albany County Legislature is considering a county Clean Air Law\, Local Law B. There is a public hearing on Zoom for the proposed county law on the evening of Tuesday\, July 28. Will the Albany County Legislature stand up for clean air? The Norlite incinerator in Cohoes has been burning toxic waste for decades. What are the environmental and health impacts of the operations in Cohoes\, Colonie\, Green Island\, Watervliet\, Troy\, and the entire region? Join a distinguished panel of guests for an online discussion of this important issue.
