WHEN: May 2nd, 2012 from 3:30 – 5:30PM
WHERE: Missing Link Street Ministry Mission, 3370 6th Avenue (at 101st Street) in North Troy
The Mind Body Soul Carnival is a workshop series created by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute students in the “Art, Community Technology” course. This workshop, offered on Wednesday afternoons at the Missing Link Street Ministry Mission, consists of activities for neighborhood youth including arts and education projects from bookmaking to computer graphics, cooking and nutrition, music and song-writing, science, martial arts and exercise!
The celebration features neighborhood chefs cooking meals, delivered by Capital District Community Garden’s “Veggie Mobile Sprout”, which brings fresh vegetables and produce to the “food desert” in North Troy and around Rensselaer County. Students and youth participants will create signs to feature Community Garden’s Healthy Convenience Store Initiative.
The “Art Community Technology” course, taught by Professor Miller in the Arts Department of RPI, is designed for students to engage creatively with Troy’s diverse communities. The festival will display music, photos and graphic arts projects created through a collaboration between the students and the youth of Missing Link.
Missing Link Street Ministry Mission’s motto is “Be Blessed, But More So Be a Blessing in Somone’s Life today.” Their core mission is to feed people, physically and spiritually. Pastor Willie Bacote says about the Mind Body Soul Carnival: “ Through art, let us serve our people.”
