SPRING 2019 SEASON ANNOUNCED AT THE SANCTUARY FOR INDEPENDENT MEDIA! Schedule features musical performances, speakers, films, workshops, a gallery show, and more!

TROY – The Spring 2019 season at The Sanctuary for Independent Media kicks off on March 29 with a free show by the Afro-Latin-Reggae-Rock sensation Taína Asili and concludes on June 8 with the seventh annual Freedom Festival with free food, free arts activities, and free music with NYC’s Fay Victor and Mutations for Justice.

The season will feature many events ranging from music to films to speakers.  Highlights include talks by authors Dahr Jamail, L.A.Kauffman and Jesse Jarnow; performances by Taína Asili with special guests, and Richie & Rosie, as well as jazz vocalist Fay Victor; screenings including q&a’s with filmmakers Astra Taylor and Andre Lambertson, workshops, a gallery show and much much more!

“The activist singer-songwriter celebrates her birthday and the release of a new album, Resiliencia! Taina’s 9-piece band will be in the house; the night will include music by DJ Johnny Juice (Public Enemy/The Odyssey), and special guest performances by Lajas (tap dance), Veena Chandra (sitar), Amani Olugbala (poetry), Leah Penniman(dance), and more. And the Sanctuary is celebrating resilience too! Musicians Richie Stearns and Rosie Newton join Jesse Jarnow, author of “Wasn’t That a Time: The Weavers, the Blacklist, and the Battle for the American Soul,” in a celebration of Pete Seeger’s 100th birthday. Free.
